A little more about Socialmii

Hello.  My name is Wendy Dashwood-Quick - founder of SocialMii.  I am a published Author, Social Media Trainer, Freelance Copywriter and blogger.   You can follow me on Twitter @Dashwood or @socialmii

My mission is to help Small Business men and women, Entrepreneurs and budding authors write e-books, blogs and white papers to help them generate more leads, showcase thier expertise, strengthen their network and grow their business.

Based in Essex, I am one of five daughters and began my career as a Girl Friday/slave/’goffer’ in an Advertising Agency. Following that I worked in a variety of industries in the public and private sectors including Legal, Insurance, IT and Education. I’ve even worked behind a bar and worked as a Silver-Service waitress. I am an experienced Coach and have helped all sorts of people from Managing Directors, Entrepreneurs, Professional Musicians, Teachers, Graduates and Teenagers get all their ducks in a row and stop stressing about ‘stuff’. I am also a trained career Mentor and studied Alternative Therapies including Reiki, Indian Head Massage and EFT.

I have always been keen to learn new things and as such made it a priority to keep up to date with technology.  Necessity meant that I had to find my way around writing e-mails, newsletters, learning about Social Media and in front of the curve as far as possible.  I probably don’t realise how much I know, until I start talking about it and sharing and ideas and spotting things that my clients, friends and associates are missing out on.

I employ a straightforward approach to Social Marketing and copywriting, minus all the buzz wards and jargon. Writing is in my blood.  My Grandfather wrote short stories whilst at sea and my father had a passion for the English language and literature.

I am a keen blogger and published my first book in 2009 “Discover Yourself on the YellowBrick Road”, and several e-books, including “The Cheat’s Guide to E-books” shortly to be re-launched.

I love Flamenco and trained briefly with Joaquin Grillo – one of Spain’s most celebrated Flamenco dancers. Watch a dance lesson here

As a teenager I toured Europe (as a cellist) as part of a scratch orchestra of young musicians  who appeared at St Michael’s Cave in Gibraltar, concert halls in Santander and Vigo in Spain. I’ve also performed in the final of the annual Music For Youth Festival at the Royal Albert Hall

Things you don’t know about me

  • I’ve cheated death 3 times including a Near Death Experience following major surgery in 1995, and a narrow escape from a  runaway car which crashed through the plate-glass window of a shop!
  • My Great Grandfather  William Worboys spent most of his career as a Train Driver on the Flying Scotsman – the most famous steam train in the world.  He was responsible for taking this historic train into the record books, when it became first steam train ever to travel at over 100 mph.
  • Never one to shy away from a  challenge, I’ve abseiled  down a waterfall, and a 110 ft office block for charity,
